Detectives working drug interdiction on I-75 for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office seized approximately two pounds of marijuana from a vehicle they observed following too close to another vehicle.  Initial contact with the suspect’s vehicle for a traffic stop was in the area of the 24 and a half mile marker. But the vehicle continued off the interstate and stopped near the intersection of Georgetown Road and 25th Street.

When the detective approached the driver’s door he reported a strong odor of raw marijuana was coming from the passenger area of the vehicle.

Permission was given to search the vehicle and in the rear seat a garbage bag containing approximately two pounds of marijuana was found.

Ken Lanell Richmond, 35, of Anniston Alabama, who was identified as the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody and is charged with possession of marijuana for resale and following too close.

His passenger, Demetria Shafi, 30, of Saint Albans West Virginia, was charged with possession of marijuana for resale.

Both suspects were taken to the Bradley County jail.
