The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has one person in custody and the search continues for a second suspect in a burglary of the maintenance building at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Just before midnight Tuesday night a patrol deputy observed two men riding a John Deere Gator with no headlights on South Ocoee Street. The deputy attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop and turned onto Kile Lane.  They drove behind a building and both occupants fled on foot.

While searching the area, BCSO patrol deputies took Joshua Tanner George, 18, into custody.  After questioning, he was charged with burglary, theft over $1,000, felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment, resisting stop frisk and halt, driving while intoxicated and underage consumption.

Deputies went to George’s residence on South Ocoee Street and recovered a chainsaw, three weed-eaters, and a trimmer that were taken out of a locked building at the cemetery. In an interview, the suspect said he was holding the items for someone else.

The value of the stolen property, including the Gator, was over $4,000. Sheriff Tim Gobble and Patrol Captain Jon Collins commended the deputies who took part in the investigation, arrest, and recovery of the stolen property before the theft was discovered.
