Following an annual inspection of the Bradley County jail on Wednesday Sheriff Tim Gobble received good news that the inspector for Tennessee Corrections Institute found no deficiencies.

The jail is required by state law to meet minimum standards for local correctional facilities in order to retain certification. Since the 408-bed jail opened in May 2004, it has retained certification by the Tennessee Corrections Institute.

"This is certainly good news. The jail staff works hard to ensure the facility is operated properly and inmate needs are met. Credit should also go to Capt.Gabe Thomas who is one of the top jail administrators in this part of the state and keeps everything smoothly on a daily basis," said Gobble.

Barry Suttles, a Detention Facility Specialist for Tennessee Corrections Institute, conducted the inspection. He checked for compliance in 14 categories covering all aspects of jail operation and inmate care.

Gobble said the jail meets or exceeds minimum requirements in each of the 14 categories.

He said having a certified facility is important because it helps to prevent frivious inmate lawsuits that can be costly for taxpayers.
