The pair reported their car had experienced mechanical problems and was abandoned near the Cleveland Speedway. Further investigation by Deputy Adam Ensley revealed no signs of trouble with the vehicle and inside the trunk he discovered three new mufflers.

During questioning, the suspects admitted the mufflers were stolen from a muffler business on Inman Street. Additional investigation by Deputy Ensley revealed D&R Wholesale Company on South Lee Highway had been entered. The grinder and tools were identified as the property of D&R Wholesale.

Calvin J. Cook, 19, of Connie Court, and Christopher R. Flint, 19, of Charlotte Drive, were taken into custody.

Investigation revealed the pair had been involved in burglaries to three vehicles near the intersection of Tasso Lane and Blythe Ferry Road in June.

Both suspects were charged with burglaries at D&R Wholesale and the muffler business, and the three car burglaries. Flint has an additional count of burglary resulting from an earlier burglary at the muffler shop.

Charges: Calvin J. Cook – Burglary 2 counts; Theft Under $500 3 counts; and Auto Burglary 3 counts.

Christopher R. Flint – Burglary 3 counts; Theft Under $500 4 counts; and Auto Burglary 3 counts.
