Revenue that is received by Bradley County from jail operations saw a one-month gain of over 3 percent in May, based on the latest information available. The 408-bed jail is able to bring revenue back to the county from the incarceration of federal and state inmates and through other sources that are directly related to jail operations. Each state inmate generates $35 per day while federal inmates return $49.60 per day under a contract with the U.S. Marshall’s Service. The contract calls for up to 100 federal inmates to be spread throughout the jail’s population. Many counties house state inmates to relieve crowding of state prisons. May revenue in this category amounted to over $131,000. Other categories were down slightly resulting in the overall increase of 3.3 %, or an additional $9,355. Total revenue for the month was $285,946. Sheriff Tim Gobble said taxpayers are kept abreast of revenue from the jail through monthly reports that are distributed to the media and posted on the department’s website, www.bradleysheriff.com.
