Revenue that is received from operation of the Bradley County jail was over $290,000 in the month of March.

The Correction Division receives revenue from several sources that is returned to the county’s General Fund. Sheriff Tim Gobble said these funds help to reduce the burden on taxpayers.

The Tennessee Department of Correction reimbursed the county $123,795 in March for state inmates that were housed in the jail. That amount represents 42% of the monthly total.

The jail is contracted to hold up to 100 non-violent federal inmates each day. In March the county was reimbursed $150,654, which was 49% of the monthly total of $293,076.67.

The billing process takes time to complete so it is normally several weeks before payments are received.

Other sources including the inmate phone system, Sexual Offender Registry, the inmate commissary and work release, account for the remaining 9%.
