Bradley County Sheriff’s deputies took Scotty Lee Bass, 28, into custody Monday morning as part of an investigation of two robberies at the Kangaroo Express on Blue Springs Road. Scotty Lee Bass The clerk working the night shift Sunday called 9-1-1 to report a man who frequents the business passed him a note demanding cigarettes and all of the money he had in the cash register. The suspect then fled on foot. The clerk also reported he was the same person who robbed the business the previous Tuesday night. Based on the suspect’s description, Bradley County Patrol Sgt. Clint Denny and Deputy Dustin Patrick identified Bass as a possible suspect in the robberies. They placed his residence on Old Chattanooga Road under surveillance to await his return. Bass was the passenger in a vehicle that pulled up a short time later and he was taken into custody without incident. During further investigation some of the cigarettes that were taken from the store were found inside the trailer where Bass lives along with clothing that was worn during the robbery. Bass was later booked into the Bradley County jail charged with two counts of robbery. As a result of the joint effort by BCSO and the Cleveland Police Department four robberies over the last week have been cleared.
