Robert G. "Bob" Gault joined the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office in February 2004 as the first full-time Public Information Officer.
A native of Chattanooga, he has lived most of his life in Cleveland. He attended Chattanooga Public Schools and Cleveland City Schools. He graduated from Cleveland High School and attended Cleveland State Community College. Gault started his career in media in September 1971 as the nighttime disc jockey at WBAC Radio. In 1974 he was appointed News Director with responsibility for the station’s news content including coverage of local government, education, and police beats. When he joined the Bradley County Sheriff's Office in 2004 he was News Director of Brewer Broadcasting Company’s Cleveland group which included WBAC, WDNT (AM and FM), WAYA, WXQK, and WALV. During his broadcasting career of over 32 years he was a part of WTVC Channel 9's Cleveland News Bureau and for over 10 years he assisted the Chattanooga Times Free-Press in their coverage of Bradley County news. Since joining the sheriff's office he has received specialized training in Police-Media Relations from Chris Ryan, an internationally recognized expert on media relations, crisis and trial communications. Gault has also completed in depth training in Police-Media Relations at the Institute of Police Technology and Management in Jacksonville Florida taught by Ronnie Jones, a retired Louisiana State trooper who is one of the foremost experts in the field of police-media relations. An avid amateur radio operator, Gault was licensed in 1992 with the call sign KD4NEC. He currently holds a General class license from the Federal Communications Commission. He has been a member of the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club since 1992 and has served as the organization's Vice President and seven terms as President. He is currently the club’s Public Information Officer. He is a writer for the Repeater Journal, an amateur radio magazine that is published quarterly by the Southeastern Repeater Association for distribution to subscribers in eight southeastern states. He is a member of the American Radio Relay League, currently serving in the positions of Public Information Coordinator and Affiliated Club Coordinator for the Tennnessee Section of ARRL’s field organization. Gault is certified by the ARRL to administer amateur radio license examinations and h is a member of ARRL’s Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), The National Weather Service’s SkyWarn program, and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) He is a member and former Director of the Auxiliary Communications Service that offers trained volunteers to the Cleveland - Bradley County Emergency Management Agency and other disaster relief organizations to ensure they are able to communicate in the wake of a disaster. He has completed the three levels of the Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Course (ARECC) for disaster communications and he is now certified as an ARECC Instructor and Examiner. He has additional specialized training on bomb detection, Homeland Security, advanced severe weather and tornado spotter techniques, and the National Incident Management System through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Gault is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Hiwassee Chapter of the American Red Cross where he was chairman of the Disaster Services Committee. He has also been a member of the Law Enforcement Committee of the Cleveland-Bradley Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors of the Cleveland Humane Education Association. A founding member of the Cleveland Media Association,. he has served as Vice President, President Elect and President. He currently serves on the city of Cleveland’s Johnston Park Advisory Committee and is a member of the National Information Officers Association. Gault is active in the local United Way. He has served as a member of several fund distribution panels and as chairman of the campaign at the Bradley County Sheriff’’s Office. He is a member of North Cleveland Church of God where he served on the Media Ministries Board. He has been an active member of the video production crew for the past 15 years, serving as a camera operator and presently is a director for video recordings. Bob Gault is married to Judy, a 2nd grade teacher at D. P. Yates Primary School. They have two grown sons, Jeremy and Jonathan.
