Fees received from incarceration of misdemeanor and felony offenders in the Bradley County Jail were over $230,000 for November 2007, the last month that payment was received.

The jail generates revenue that helps off set expenditures in its operational budget. The largest amounts are attributed to the housing of state and federal inmates, for which the county is paid $35.00 per day for state inmates and $49.60 for federal inmates. All funds are accounted for as revenue in the county General Fund.

Jail staff maintains records of each inmate’s stay to calculate the amount of reimbursement. Bills are then sent to state and federal government agencies but normally require several weeks to process.

The total received in November was $230,201.23. Broken down by category, revenue sources are:

  • State inmates - $107,625.00
  • Federal inmates - $110,159.86
  • Evercom – (revenue the county receives from the inmate phone system) $6,438.94
  • Sex Offender Registry - $340.00
  • Data Processing - $112
  • Sheriff’s Office fees $1,831.00
  • Commissary (the county’s portion of purchases by inmates from their account) $3,694.43

For the current fiscal year, July through November, collections are $1,153,345.30.

Additional sums not included above are payments the sheriff’s office receives from the jail booking fee and fees received from serving arrest warrants and other court papers. The Circuit Court Clerks Office collects these amounts for the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Tim Gobble said a report on revenue collections by the sheriff’s office would be provided to the taxpayers each month.
