Joint City - County Investigation Nabs Suspect in May Armed Robbery
The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and the Cleveland Police Department have concluded a joint investigation that resulted in the arrest of Kendall J. Battle on multiple felony charges.
Sheriff’s Detective Joseph Lea while investigating the theft of a cell phone from a local day care center was contacted by an informant with information that a suspect in the theft of the cell phone could have ties to an armed robbery in May of this year.
Det. Lea took the suspect into custody at an apartment on Georgetown Road. There he found the cell phone, a safe that was taken in a burglary on Inman Street, and other stolen property.
He then contacted the Cleveland Police Department where warrants for Battle were on file related to four burglaries. As a result of further investigation by Detective Duff Brumley, Battle was also charged with the armed robbery of a convenience store.
The 19 year-old suspect, who gave a Georgetown Road address, has been charged with:
- The aggravated burglary of a residence at 560 Inman Street on May 8, 2006 and again on May 31, 2006. Several guns, jewelry, and a safe were part of the loss.
- The burglary of Moe’s Southwest Grill on Keith Street on July 6, 2006.
- The aggravated burglary of a residence at 2607 Henderson Avenue on May 13, 2006.
- The armed robbery of the Kangaroo Express on Blue Springs Road on May 18, 2007.
Additional charges of aggravated burglary, domestic violence, misdemeanor violation of probation, and two counts of failing to appear in court were on file when Battle was arrested.
No charges have been filed at this time related to the theft of the cell phone, however, investigators for the Cleveland Police Department say additional arrests and charges are possible at they continue their investigation.
Battle has cooperated with investigators providing details of his involvement in the crimes. He was arrested on September 21 and remains in custody at the Bradley County jail .
Det. Kevin White of the Bradley Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division participated in the investigation and arrest.
