Over the last several weeks, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints regarding a woman approaching people at local businesses asking for money to buy gas because she left her wallet in Knoxville. This story was easily identified as untrue because the same woman was utilizing the same story over several days. In some cases this woman solicited the same people at shopping locations in both Bradley and Hamilton Counties.
Following these complaints, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division was able to identify this person as Jennifer L. Jordan, a 24-year-old resident of Anderson County. Additionally, this investigation has confirmed the money she received utilizing this story was not used as she claimed it would be. After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, it has been determined that no current state law has been violated in these incidents. However, if this activity continues disorderly conduct charges may apply.
The purpose of this press release is to inform the public that the person identified here is not in real need of financial assistance to return to Knoxville. She is taking advantage of the good will of Bradley County citizens. The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office commends the kindness and generosity of all Bradley County citizens who in good faith tried to help someone they believed to be in need. However, should this particular woman return and ask again, you may want to save your money for those truly in need. If Jennifer L. Jordan is observed soliciting money again in Bradley County please contact the Sheriff’s Office for follow-up. For our original story on this suspect: Click Here |
