A fugitive wanted in connection with armed robberies in the Nashville-Davidson County area was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon at a traffic stop on U.S. 64 east of Cleveland.
Joshua A. Sigler had been under surveillance by Bradley County Sheriff’s detectives since notification Wednesday morning by the Metro Nashville Police Department that the suspect may be staying with a relative in Cleveland. Detectives placed a residence on Eighth Street Southeast under surveillance and observed a silver vehicle leave that was being driven by a female and occupied by a male.
Patrol officers conducted a felony traffic stop in conjunction with the Criminal Investigations Division and the SWAT team and took Sigler, who was identified as a passenger in the vehicle, into custody without incident. Sheriff Tim Gobble credited the arrest to cooperation between patrol officers, detectives, and the SWAT team who worked together to place the suspect in custody without anyone being injured. During questioning, Sigler gave a statement to detectives concerning his involvement in the following robberies: · February 18, 2007 armed robbery at the Motel 6 at 323 Cartwright Road in Goodlettsville. · March 2, 2007 armed robbery of the Hampton Inn at 202 Northgate Circle in Goodlettsville. · March 15, 2007 armed robbery of the Eckerd Drug Store at 3407 Gallatin Pike in Nashville. · March 21, 2007 armed robbery of the Blockbuster Video Store at 3600 Gallatin Pike in Nashville. · March 27, 2007 armed robbery of a Subway restaurant at 907 Rivergate Parkway in Goodlettsville. The 26 year-old resident of Curtis Cross Road in Hendersonville is charged with five counts of Aggravated Robbery. Preliminary information provided by the fugitive unit of the Metro Nashville Police Department indicated the suspect could be heavily armed, although at the time of his arrest no weapons were found. Pending his transfer to a Nashville jail, detectives continue to question Sigler about other robberies that have been reported in southeast Tennessee. |
