TBI Investigating Shooting on Springplace Rd Print

Release from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office:

On Monday night Bradley County Sheriff’s deputies received a BOLO for a vehicle that had twice eluded city officers. A deputy observed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Springplace Road and Dalton Pike. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle which pulled into a convenience store where it struck a parked vehicle and metal barrier.

The suspect was engaged in inflicting injury to a female passenger and refused to obey the commands of deputies. The subject continued to struggle with the victim. After repeated commands deputies stopped the subject with gunshot.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to Erlanger Medical Center. The suspect was struck once with gunshot and was transported to SkyRidge Medical Center.

District Attorney General Steve Bebb and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation were called by the sheriff to investigate the incident. It is standard procedure for the TBI to investigate when a deputy must use deadly force.

Release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation:

The District Attorney General has requested TBI to investigate an officer involved shooting and the events that led up to the use of force by a Bradley County deputy last night. The shooting happened after the subject's car crashed in a convenience store near the intersection of Springplace Road and Dalton Pike after he had eluded police in Cleveland.

The subject who was shot has been identified as Bobby Forgey (DOB 1/25/75). Forgey was physically assaulting a female victim, Heather Killen (DOB 7/27/77), in the vehicle. She contacted 911 several times throughout the assault in the car stating that she was being held against her will. When Bradley County deputies approached the vehicle, Forgey refused to obey the commands of officers and continued to inflict injury on Killen. One deputy opened fire shooting Forgey in the neck. He was taken to SkyRidge Medical Center and is in critical condition. Killen was taken to Erlanger Medical Center with multiple stab wounds and is in stable condition.

TBI is continuing to investigate and will turn the case file over to the District Attorney General when completed for review. No one has been charged at this time. TBI does not release the names of officers involved in shootings; the decision to release the officer's name and employment status is determined by each individual law enforcement agency that employs the officer.
