This afternoon Bradley County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call of a burglary-in-progress at a residence located at the intersection of Bates Pike and Lyle Road.  The caller reported a large Penske Rental truck was parked in the driveway and several items had been taken out of the residence and placed in the back of the truck.

Before deputies arrived the truck pulled away and was last seen heading west on Bates Pike.  Responding units spotted the truck on Durkee Road and attempted a traffic stop.  The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued to U.S. 64 where the truck turned west in the eastbound lane. A short distance away at a median crossover the truck pulled into the westbound lane but still refused to stop.
The truck made a turn onto A-P-D 40 and got behind a logging truck.  When that vehicle slowed, the rental truck had no avenue of escape so the driver pulled to the side of the road and attempted to flee on foot.  After a brief foot pursuit he was taken into custody by Deputy Jay Lawson without further incident.
At the present time the suspect is being questioned by detectives so no additional information is available.
